New Zealand Bluebell

 

Low cushions of dark green leaves that are almost completely covered with 6" high branching stems of light blue flowers.  Bloomss over a long period summer to fall.  Grow in sun to part shade in well-drained soil.

Wahlenbergia akaroa is a recently described species endemic to the coastal cliffs of South Island, New Zealand where it grows in vertical crevices and pastures.  Short-lived, up to 4 years, but self sows freely.  Zones 5-9 Campanulaceae

This long-lived rhizomatous perennial forms tufts of small green leaves.  A single delicate, light blue and white striped flower is produced at the top of each of many short stems 4-6" high in summer. Grow in sun to part shade, well-drained soil.  Zones 5-9.  Campanulaceae
