  Low Bright Green Mat

Creeping bright green mat with small needle-like foliage and inconspicuous flowers in summer.  4" x up to 3'  The foliage is a little larger and looser than S. uniflorus, see below. Grow in very well drained soil with regular water.  Found in grasslands and among rocks in New Zealand, Tasmania and Australia.  Hardy to 0 F. Caryophyllaceae

  Neat Mounding Form

This New Zealand native forms a dense, mounding cushion 2” x 12”.   It has tiny, inconspicuous flowers in early summer.  Grow in full sun in sandy or gritty soil with regular water.   Use in rock gardens, scree bed, alpine house, troughs.   Hardy to 0 F. Caryophyllaceae 

 

Spring 2006 Update:

Our plants have bloomed and we have verified that the plant we grow is correctly Scleranthus uniflorus.  We have also learned that the name we originally obtained the seed under, S. biflorus ssp uniflorus, is a synonym for S. uniflorus.
