Auricula Primrose

This is the true Alpine Auricula found in the mountains of Europe and parent to many evergreen primroses in cultivation.  It has spoon-shaped, powdery gray-green leaves and umbels of yellow flowers in spring.  6” X 10”.  Grow in full sun in cool climates or partial shade.  It prefers moderately fertile, moist and very well-drained soil.  It grows well in a gritty mix.  Extemely cold hardy to –40 degrees F.  Primulaceae

Deep Violet Flowers

Silver powder peaks out from beneath the leaves and covers the blooming stalk of this hardy primrose.  It has attractive umbels of dark violet flowers in summer to 12 ” high or more.  Grow in cool sun to partial shade in moderately fertile, moist soil.  Hardy to –20 degrees F.   Native to the Himalayas.  Primulaceae

Mid-green leaves with white powder and spikes of lilac-pink flowers with yellow eyes in spring.  6-12" tall x 6” wide.  Grow in cool sun to part shade, mod fertile, moist soil. Deciduous.  Native to the mountains of Europe.  Hardy to –30 degrees F. Primulaceae

This seed grown group labeled P. juliae are most likely garden hybrids. The foliage ranges in color from mid to deep green with flowers ranging from pink to red, all with a prominant yellow eye.   Grow in full sun in cool climates or partial shade.  It prefers moderately fertile, moist and very well-drained soil.  It grows well in a gritty mix.  Hardy to – 20 degrees F.  Primulaceae

Rusby's Primrose

Grown from seed collected by Alan Bradshaw in Lincoln County, NM at 11,450 ft. He describes it as a "very pretty and floriferous Primrose."  It has stiff, toothed mid-green leaves and pink, yellow-eyed flowers.     8 x 10".  Grow in full sun in cool climates or partial shade.  It prefers moderately fertile, moist and very well-drained soil.  It grows well in a gritty mix.  Hardy to – 20 degrees F.  Primulaceae
