From wet mountain meadows of the Western states, this gentian forms low growing plant tufts up to 6 " high and produces white to pale blue flowers with faint spots that occur on decumbent stems in summer. Grown from seed collected in NW Colorado. The species is found in the Wasatch Mountains of Utah and the Rocky Mountains of Colorado and So. Wyoming where it is found in mountain meadows and mixed woodlands at alpine and sub-alpine elevations.
