Asian Bellflower


 

This charming bellflower has gray-blue, bell-shaped flowers in summer that are decorated with elaborate purple veining on the interior.  It is a deciduous perennial with a sprawling habit to 3 feet and can be grown to intertwine with nearby plants.    Grow in sun to partial shade in fertile, well-drained soil with moderate water.  Hardy to -20 degrees Central Asia. Campanulaceae

Poor Man's Ginseng


 

Deciduous vining perennial that can reach up to 5' high and has small cream colored bell-shaped flowers in summer.  Grow in partial shade in moist, well-drained soil.  Hardy to 0 degrees   Moist streamsides and open woodlands in NE Asia and Korea Campanulaceae

This interesting plant is widely used in Chinese herbal medicine.  Known as Poor Man's Ginseng, it has a distinctly medicinal scent when bruised.
