Low mat of needle-like foliage smothered with large white flowers in spring.   5" x 15" . Sun to part shade, well-drained soil. Hardy to -20 degrees F.  Native to the Alps and Pyrenees Mountains where it is found in grasslands.  Caryophyllaceae

This is a very interesting little plant that, when not in bloom, looks something like a miniature mounding conifer.  Evergreen cushion forms silver-gray hummocks with white, star-shaped flowers in summer.   To 6”. Sun to part shade, well-drained soil. Hardy to 0 degrees F. Nice evergreen accent in trough, scree bed or small-scale rock garden.   Native to the mountain slopes of W Asia. Vigorous evergreen perennial with large white flowers May-Aug. 8” X 12”  Grow in full sun.  Tolerates poor soil and low water.  Use in rock gardens, crevices, borders.   Native to the SW European mountains. Hardy to –30 F.   Caryophyllaceae
