Alpine Plants

These plants from the montane regions of the worlds are some of the most interesting plants for the plant collector and alpine enthusiast to grow.  Their native habitats are often harsh and inhospitable and the plants have developed a number of interesting adaptations to allow them to thrive in these environments.  Adaptations include impressive root development, compact size and shape, and gray, fuzzy or succulent foliage. Some alpines must be grown under conditions similar to their native habitats in order to thrive.  We've grouped the plants by the regions of the world in which they are mainly found and by approximate size.  Additional plants suitable for troughs and containers can be found on the Trough Plants page.
